How the Sumerians Invented the Wheel

Set to Gene McDaniels ยท “A Hundred Pounds of Clay” (1961)

Notes

The Sumerians of Mesopotamia get credit for the wheel. Around 3500 BC their potters were already spinning clay on a turning wheel, and before long the same idea was rolling under carts and war chariots.

This video tells that story in clay, set to Gene McDaniels’ 1961 hit “A Hundred Pounds of Clay.” Watch for what the Sumerians gave us — and how everyone after them improved it.
